Since I live along a busy street, we’ve many times set FREE items on the boulevard: swing set, entertainment center, recliner, etc. But only if it’s still in good enough condition that someone would want it. Not once have we had to haul anything to the landfill or to charity. We always have takers.
What I dislike, though, is furniture set outside and then rain falls and the wet item sits along the curb for weeks.
