I remember seeing that orange construction sign one day while commuting to work. \u00a0It stated that the\u00a0Lafayette Bridge & Hwy 52<\/a>\u00a0road\/bridge construction project would begin in the Spring of 2011 and end in the Fall of 2015. \u00a0All I thought was that it would be a very long disturbance to my daily routine. \u00a0I never considered the upside to it all. \u00a0I never imagined that a road\/bridge construction project would\u00a0spawn a *two-year-long daily photography project (2014-15).<\/p>\n

\"LayfetteBridge\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The construction meant that the route I traveled while commuting to and from work would be met with daily delays. \u00a0Little did I know that this would\u00a0spawn a discovery of areas\u00a0of St. Paul that I had typically only seen from the Lafayette Bridge or\u00a0from I94. \u00a0Little did I imagine\u00a0that these areas were full of seemingly endless photo opportunities. \u00a0Little did I imagine that I would completely immerse myself into a windshield photography<\/a>-style of shooting.<\/p>\n

\"07-06-14<\/a><\/p>\n

The early stages of the construction project began a distance\u00a0before the Layfayette Bridge. \u00a0The Concord Street and Plato Boulevard \u00a0overpasses came first. \u00a0Traffic would back up to Concord Street as a result;\u00a0this is where my exploration\u00a0of West St. Paul began. \u00a0There were no shortages of options off of the Concord Street exit from\u00a0Caesar Chavez Street<\/a> (opposite direction of Concord Street). \u00a0I was afforded three different routes into Downtown\/Lowertown St. Paul via the Robert Street<\/a>, Wabasha Street<\/a> and Smith Avenue<\/a>\u00a0bridges over the Mississippi River.<\/p>\n

\"NewRoute\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Once across the river my route options to\u00a0arrive at\u00a0Energy Park Drive (via Lexington or Front Street) were numerous. \u00a0I spent a fair amount time traveling\/shooting\u00a0Robert Street<\/a>, University Avenue<\/a>, 5th Street<\/a>, Lexington Avenue<\/a>\u00a0and Selby Avenue<\/a>. \u00a0I’ve found many delightful things along the way. \u00a0Cora’s Best Wings<\/a>,\u00a0Don Panchos Bakery<\/a>, Great Harvest Bread Co.<\/a>, Mississippi Market<\/a>, St. Paul Farmer’s Market<\/a>, Rice Park, Mears Park an Kellogg Mall Park to mention a\u00a0few.<\/p>\n

A routine is not whimsical, but rather purposeful. \u00a0A routine is\u00a0common-place. \u00a0 Routines are sometimes necessary to facilitate an orderly means to traverse through your daily activities. \u00a0My initial routine upset was re-focused [literally] and I found a way to enjoy an unanticipated change. \u00a0This next year, deviate from a routine; change it up and create a new one. \u00a0You never know what is around that next corner or down that street you often drive by. \u00a0Hopefully it will be something interesting, entertaining, tasty or otherwise pleasing. \u00a0Happy New Year everyone!<\/p>\n

*My photo-posting commitment was less\u00a0formal prior to 2014 when I began\u00a0self-hosting my blog out of storage space limitations. I began shooting in all the areas mentioned above in 2011 when the construction began. \u00a0Much of 2013 is intact on my previous blog Outdoor Guy Photography<\/a>. \u00a0All\u00a0posts prior to July 2012 were deleted\u00a0:-\/ \u00a0More photos of St. Paul can be found in my 2013 Weekly Shots<\/a> series. \u00a0Unfortunately, the entire 52 week series did not survive site size trimming. \u00a03 GB is the max size for a free \r\nwordpress.com site - hence the\u00a0reason I moved to self-hosting. \u00a0I've used bluehost.com<\/a> for 2 - going on 3 years now and have been very happy.<\/pre>\n
